Frédéric LAINÉ - Viola

Frédéric Lainé is engaged in a triple activity: viola playing, teaching and musicology. After graduating from the National Superior Music Conservatories of Lyon and Paris, he went to Italy to take master courses with the Trio de Trieste then to London with the Amadeus Quartet. Solo-viola of the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie since 1981 and Concerts Pasdeloup in 1982, Frédéric Lainé has dedicated himself mainly to chamber music ever since. With the Simon Quartet, Fidelio Piano Quartet, and finally the Cappa String Quartet he played in a great number of concerts and festivals all over Europe, in America and Oceania and notably in France in the principal Parisian chamber music cycles: Radio France, Musée d’Orsey, Châtelet, Salle Gaveau, Auditorium du Louvre, IRCAM… Frédéric Lainé has become a member of the Enesco Quartet in november 2021.

Doctor in musicology in 1998 at the University François Rabelais of Tours, Frédéric Lainé was appointed Director of collection with the Gérard Billaudot Musical Publisher in Paris. As such, he is the author of a six-volume School of the Viola, and the revision and the reprinting of numerous pieces from the viola repertory. Frédéric Lainé has equally collaborated with Bärenreiter for the new Berlioz edition (Harold in Italy in 2001) and regularly publishes his works and articles with French and Belgian houses (PUF, Fayard, Mardaga, Symetrie…) amongst which a History of the Viola, Fuzeau 2010.

Frédéric Lainé has been teaching the viola and chamber music in the Center Conservatoire in Paris, as well as the Didactics of the chamber music in the National Superior Conservatoire of Music in Paris.
